Revolution Track League #1 @ Bellville Velodrome

After months of no racing we are finally back with a revitalizing track league which will run over 8 events on a points system basis. Rider with the most points will walk away with the title of Revolution Track League Champion. Our first event will take place on 19 September 2020 at the Bellville Velodrome starting at 2pm.

Due to restrictions that have been imposed insofar as numbers of participants, staff and support that we are allowed to have at an event, we unfortunately cannot allow any spectators.

Slanghoek Spring Race – Rescheduled @ Die Eike Restaurant and Coffee

Due to adverse weather conditions this race was regrettably cancelled on Sunday 13 September at short notice. WP Cycling take the safety of our participants very seriously and after consultation with our safety officer, the race officials, regional health and safety representatives and race organisers we decided to call off the race.

THIS RACE HAS NOW BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2020!!!

All existing entries will be carried forward and we are reopening entries for the ladies and 80km races.  Entries are limited and on a first-come, first-serve basis. This opportunity to enter these races will close at 12h00 (noon) on Friday 18 September or once full. Substitutions are also possible. Refer to the event details below.

After months of lock-down WP Cycling will be hosting the first road race post lock down this September and we are hoping that it will be a great success.

We are trying to host a safe event, but that comes at a bit of a cost to all concerned.  There are a lot of restrictions that have been imposed insofar as numbers of participants, staff and support that we are allowed to have at an event.  To accommodate this, we unfortunately cannot allow any spectators.  There will also be strict controls in place regarding registration, taking of temperatures of ALL people at the event and details of this will be sent to each participant in an email once registration has closed.

We can only cater for u/19 and older at this race.

The route is a mixture of rolling hills on the one side and a flat sometimes windy section called ‘Waaihoek’ on the other side. The race will cross the Breede River by using the low cement bridge. Please keep on checking social media should this area experience heavy rains.

Registration and costs

All registrations have to be completed and paid by Wednesday, 9 September, because we need to perform a risk analysis and plan the start groups. These restrictions are needed to allow us to host a race while meeting the various Covid-19 restrictions and regulations.

All participants will receive a confirmation email by Friday 11 September to indicate their start group and start times. Each participant will also be assigned to either the blue or black registration area. On the day, follow the coloured arrows leading to the coloured gazebo.

Course and distances

We plan up to 4 start groups depending on the entries received by Wednesday, 9 September. The provisional distances are as follows;

  • Teams – 135 km (3 x 45km) – Pre-approved members only (No more entries available)
  • Long –  120 km (3 x 40 km) – Up to 2 start groups  (No more entries available)
  • Medium –  80 km (2 x 40 km) – 2 start groups of no more that 50 riders
  • Women – 80 km (2 x 40 km)

We request that all riders approach the venue and registration area 30 mins before the start of their races due to the new Covid-19 regulations. We are not allowed to have more that 50 persons in any one area.

Registration and Parking

Parking for Teams will be at Die Eike Restaurant, while the parking for the rest of the participants will be at EikeSaal and the Community College about 400 metres from Die Eike on the left hand side of the road

Registration awill be at Die Eike Restaurant and Coffee Shop. There will be 2 separate registration areas. Please use the area assigned to your start group.

  • Blue area – Teams and Start Group 2
  • Black area – Start Groups 1 and 3

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE USE THE MOBII TIMING SYSTEM TO TIME OUR RACES.  IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A MOBII TIMING CHIP YOU WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE ONE WITH YOUR RACE ENTRY

Substitutions

Substitutions for any category is possible by means of the original participant sending us an email to [email protected], providing your name and the name and contact details of the person who will substitute you. We will make contact with the new participant. A R50 fee will be payable by them via our online payment system. The fee for the original entry has to be settled between the parties.

The Team and Long distance (120km) are filled and we are unable to accommodate more riders. Sorry! The number of Medium entries is also very limited; first come first serve.

Perdeberg Classic Road Race @ Perdeberg Cellars

Our second race back after lockdown sees us return to the ever popular Perdeberg Cellars.  Dirk, Rob and the rest of the team there are welcoming us back with open arms!

 

The race consists of loops of a 50km route and we are offering either 150km or 100km races, depending on your preference.  However, we are also including an 80km race of the U/17’s and the U/19 development riders.

Revolution Track League #2 @ Bellville Velodrome

“It was a great event”…….just to sum up our first track league event that recently took place at the Bellville Velodrome.  A great turnout of riders brought forth some excellent and very competitive racing in all categories.

And how quickly time flies. Here we are back again with the second event in the Revolution Track League series on 10 October 2020.

Sports Trust Virtual Cycle Challenge – Piketberg @ Virtual Event

Be a Sports Trust “HERO” for our Community

The Sports Trust is excited to be hosting its inaugural Virtual Cycle Challenge as Covid-19 has led to dramatic adjustments, changes and reinventing the way sports participation is managed the globe over. As such, The Sports Trust has adapted accordingly, to ensure that it delivers on its stated mandate and objectives.

The Trust hosts a number of community cycling events for the advancement of the Development Cycling Programme as a priority. These events provide the cyclists and the communities with platforms to promote the sport, generate income and provide an opportunity to participate in competitive races.

This inaugural Sports Trust Virtual Cycle Challenge is taking place on Sunday 11 October 2020 with the Piketberg community, identified as the main beneficiary. The format is flexible, open and accessible for all cyclists, irrespective of their physical and geographical location. You can use your road bike or mountain bike and cycle where ever you choose. Please adhere to the COVID19 regulations in your country on the day and remember to be
safe and wear your helmet.

Cyclists can choose their distance according to their fitness level, which includes 5km, 20km, 50km and 108km on the day. Please remember to record your time using any fitness device or STAVA app. Once completed, you will need to manually upload your times onto www.finishtime.co.za to be eligible for your certificate of completion.

Entries are online using www.Quicket.co.za for this challenge and cost ZAR 50 per person. Remember that you need to complete the challenge on the actual day of Sunday 11 October 2020 and manually record your times.

Western Cape Cycling is proud to announce its annual Track Championship for 2020. The Western Province Cycling Association has again offered to host the event at the “house of pain”, the Bellville Velodrome.

Collection of Race Numbers

A valid Cycling SA membership/proof of license must be presented on collection. Numbers can be collected at the event registration table from 8h00 on 24 October and 9h00 on 25 October 2020.

Pursuits and Team sprints

Teams must submit their names at registration and Madison numbers can be collected on
Sunday 25 October 2020.

Parking

All riders will have to park outside in the public parking areas.  Inside parking is reserved for officials and organisers.
Security has been instructed not to allow unauthorised vehicles inside the stadium. This is to allow emergency vehicles unobstructed access.

Yes we moving to the land of the vineyards and sunshine, the place where there is no hiding from the wind whilst racing around the track. Our first Paarl track event in the Revolution Track League series will take place on 14 November 2020 at the famous Faure Stadium in Paarl.
