Categories and Seeding

The 2022 League events will follow this category structure.

Category 1

All male/female cyclists from U/19 to Masters provided they are of the requisite standard to compete at the required level. The Pedal Power Association seeding group A will be used as a guideline to ascertain the rider’s standard. This will not be the sole criteria on which a participant is judged.

Results will not take the participant’s gender or age into account.

Participants will be ranked individually on points earned.

Participants who do not qualify in accordance with the criteria listed above, but want to ride in Category 1, must submit their request in writing to [email protected] at least 7 working days prior to the next event.

U/19 gear restrictions are applicable for U19 participants.

No U/17 cyclists will be considered for participation in Category 1.

Category 2

All male/female cyclists from U/19 to Masters provided they are of the requisite standard to compete at that level. The Pedal Power Association seeding groups B , C , D will be used as a guideline to ascertain the rider’s standard. This will not be the sole criteria on which a participant is judged.

Results will not take the participant’s gender or age into account.

Participants will be ranked individually on points earned.

Participants who do not qualify in accordance with the criteria listed above, but want to ride in Category 2, must submit their request in writing to [email protected] at least 7 working days prior to the event. 

U/17 cyclists who wish to participate in Category 2 must apply in writing to the Road Commissioner [email protected]  Should the request be granted, entry to races should be done as usual, however, prior to payment an email needs to be sent to [email protected] to make adjustments to your online invoice as there is a price difference between the youth categories and the senior categories.  All applications must include a recommendation from the cyclists WP/CSA affiliated club and must include their provincial and national championship results.  Applications received directly from the cyclist must be accompanied by a letter of permission from his or her parent(s) / legal guardian. 

Under 17 gear restrictions are applicable to U/17 cyclists

Under 19 gear restrictions are applicable to U/19 cyclists

Approval is valid for the entire 2022 WP Road League Season

Veterans Age Category 40+ who are seeded PPA A may participate in Category 2 without application

Category 3

All male/female cyclists from Elite to Masters provided they are of the requisite standard to compete at that level. The Pedal Power Association seeding groups E F G H  will be used as a guideline to ascertain the rider’s standard, or any Women and Master cyclists in PPA seeding groups A – Z.

U/19 and U/17 riders are not allowed to participate in this category.

CSA Age Category 50+ seeded PPA A B C D may participate in this category 

Category 4 / Open Category

This category is aimed at Social Racing and is subject to the rules and regulations as per CSA.

and is open to all male/female cyclists from Elite to Masters provided they are of the requisite standard to compete at that level. The Pedal Power Association seeding groups i and lower  will be used as a guideline to ascertain the rider’s standard.

There will be no prize money awarded to the podium places

A Race number and timing chip must be purchased.

Youth Aged cyclists (U/11 – U/19) are not allowed to participate in this category.

Participants who do not qualify in accordance with the criteria listed above, but want to ride in Category 4, must submit their request in writing to [email protected] at least 1 week prior to the event.

Women

All categories are open to women, depending on their fulfilling the requisite standard for each category, however only the women racing in Category 3 will be entered into the league points competition.  Where we have 10 or more women entering a race, a separate race will be held for them.

Under 19

U/19 have the choice of entering Categories 1 or 2, or remaining in the youth division of U/19 Development.  This category is for the U/19’s who are not accustomed to racing at a high level and who still need to familiarise themselves with racing protocols.

Under 19 gear restrictions are applicable to U/19 cyclists

Only those U/19’s participating in the Category 1 races will be awarded points and entered onto a leader board

Scholars

All youth cyclists must adhere to CSA rules and regulations governing their age category.

Changing your category

Categories are chosen by the participants at the beginning of each season.  However changes may be made to your category upon application to the Road Commissioner, who will assess each request upon it’s merits.  You are required  to submit your request in writing to [email protected] at least 7 working days prior to the event.
