Criterium Cup 2023 – Century City – Race 3 @ Century City Sports Grounds

The Century City Sport Festival celebrates its 14th year of existence and City Cycling Club has been hosting the criterium for the Sports Festival from the first edition and has seen it grow in leaps and bounds. Racing is around a 1.5 kilometre circuit which is secured by the very competent Century City Property Owners security staff. This is the third race in the WP Road Criterium Cup that commenced in February.

The Century City Criterium takes place on 5 March 2023.  The ever-popular crit race is hosted by Century City in conjunction with the City Cycling Club.  Racing starts at 8h00.

We will be having the following categories for the Criterium Championship:

Course and distances

We will follow the same course as in previous years, starting next to the MyCity bus terminal, around the various roundabouts, and back again. This is a technical circuit with strips of cobblestone in places.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 epidemic, the organisers of the Western Cape Championships reserve the right to cancel the race should circumstances dictate.  If we cancel the race 7 or more days before the time (on or before 26 February2023) we will refund those who have entered 60% of their race fee.  Anytime after that, we will refund 30% of your entry fee.  Alternatively, arrangements can be made with the registration team to carry the race fee over to the rescheduled event.  Should you request a refund, when the rescheduled event is announced, you will be required to pay the full amount again.

Century City Criterium

The last of our criteriums takes place on Saturday 18 March at 14h00 in the afternoon.  Bring friends and family along to support you at Tigers Milk.  Series prize giving will take place after this event.

Parking Arrangements:

Parking for the cyclists will be at the parking area alongside the taxi rank on Century Way.  This is the same place that we start the annual Century City event each year.  There will be no parking closer to the venue due to road closures

Cat 1 entries will be restricted to participants with BOTH a CSA Membership and CSA Full Domestic Racing License valid on Sunday 26 March 2023. No day licenses will be allowed for Cat 1.

The 7.7 kilometre Atlantis circuit can be described as the The Fastest Flattest road race in the Cape. This is the second of our league races for the 2023 season

Entries for the Youth Ages (U/15, U/17 and U/19) will be accepted for this race

Kalbaskraal – League Race 3 @ Kalbaskraal Rugby Club
May 7 @ 8:00 am – 12:30 pm

We have a new race added to our calendar – Kalbaskraal.  This is the third race in our league series and it’s a good one.  64.5km and 550m of climbing – twice, for the Category 1’s and 2’s

Cyclists start at the Kalbaskraal Rugby Club, and ride in an anti-clockwise direction, taking in Philadelphia Road, past the silos, before heading to Malmesbury on the R304, then turning back towards Kalbaskraal.

Registration and costs

The event forms part of the WP Road League for 2023.  Race entry costs R275 for senior riders and R175 for scholars and U19 Development.  Entry into the league for the race number and timing board will cost an additional R50

Route

The race starts at the Kalbaskraal Rugby Club and heads in a southerly direction towards Durbanville.  A left turn onto the Philadelphia Road takes us along to the T-Junction with Wellington Road.  Another left, past the silos, before turning left again, back towards Malmesburg.  A final left before hitting Malmesbury brings us back towards Kalbaskraal.  There is a railway crossing just before Kalbaskraal that you need to be aware of.  The finish line will be just before the railway crossing on your second loop (those that are doing 2 loops)
