We’re back in the beautiful Slanghoek Valley for the third of our league races. Please note we have moved back to our previous venue at Eike Saal which is just before the Goudini Road intersection.
The route is a mixture of rolling hills on the one side and a flat sometimes windy section called ‘Waaihoek’ on the other side. The race will cross the Breede River by using the low cement bridge. Please keep on checking social media should this area experience heavy rains.

Entry will open on or before 17 May 2023 and close at 17h00 on Friday2 June 2023. No late entries will be possible after this time.

Cancellation Policy
Due to the uncertainty surrounding the Covid-19 epidemic, the organisers of the Western Cape Championships reserve the right to cancel the race should circumstances dictate. If we cancel the race 7 or more days before the time (on or before 28 May 2023) we will refund those who have entered 60% of their race fee. Anytime after that, we will refund 30% of your entry fee. Alternatively, arrangements can be made with the registration team to carry the race fee over to the rescheduled event. Should you request a refund, when the rescheduled event is announced, you will be required to pay the full amount again.
Entrants who cancel their entries 7 or more days before the time (on or before 28 May 2023) will be refunded 30% of their entry fee. Cancellations in the 7 days prior to the event, or on the day itself, will not be refunded.
This event has been vetted and accepted as a 94.7 seeding event.
Our final race of the league series will be at Perdeberg Cellars. Bring the family along for the season closing event. The restaurant at Perdeberg make the most amazing pizza’s, and the wine tasting venue will be open. So plenty to do after the race.

After a very successful debut in 2022, the Velddrif 222 Velddrif returns. This circular route takes you inland from Velddrif to Piketberg before swinging north-west to Elandsbaai then south along the coast back to Velddrif. It’s a challenge! 222km with some serious climbs, giving you 1300m of ascent. You’d better start training soon!
The race will work on a handicap system with the slower batches starting first. Start times will be issued to participants once the entries are closed.
AND to spice things up, we are incorporating a club competition to the race. Clubs and Teams can start together but they will start in the batch of the fastest seeded rider(s), so it’s important to have team members who are of similar strengths. So get talking to your club mates and get entering. Teams may consist of up to 8 team members with the combined time of 6 team members counting for the team competition. Ensure you have indicated your club during the registration process.
The event will have 3 competitions. Fastest Team, Line honours will go to the first person across the finish line and of course race honours to the rider with the fastest elapsed time overall! So plenty to race for.
Route and Elevation
The route is a circular one, starting and ending in Velddrif.
Categories and Seeding
WPCA officials will use previous race data to seed the start groups. Participants will be notified of their start group and time by email a few days before the race takes place.
Registration
Registration will take place on Saturday 26 August at the Velddrif Town Hall in Velddrif from 4pm until 7pm and again the following morning from 6am until 8:30am.
Race Information:
The start venue for the race is in Voortrekker Road, in front of the Town Hall.
There will be 3 feed zones on the route. The first one will be as you leave Piketberg on the left hand side of the road outside Q-Koel – a distance of 65km from the start.
The second feed zone will be in the area of Redelinghuys, 126km into the race.
The final feed zone will be at SaamStaan, on the way back to Velddrif. This zone is 188km into the race, 35km from the finish, and probably a necessary stop for a lot of people.
The finish line will be just outside Velddrif on the Dwarskersbos road.
Price
Entries received and paid by 31 July 2023 will pay R222. All entries received after this date will cost R350. Early entries not paid by 31 July 2022 will be cancelled and participants will need to re-enter at normal price.
