Steynsville Senior Secondary School in conjunction with BergRivier Municipality and The Sports Trust are hosting a road cycling race in the picturesque town of Piketberg.

The various distance categories will, as usual, head off towards Redelinghuys, head back and up the Versfeld Pass over a 103km distance!

The 50km route will head out to Eendekuil Road and will make a U Turn to race on the same road back to Piketberg. These races will not tackle the mountain pass.

There will also be a dedicated 30km paracycling event which will also head out on the Eendekuil Road.

The Open Category is free for all participants, but you have to enter online to qualify for the free entry!

The event does not form part of the WP Road Racing League 2019.

Course and distances

For adult and u/19 riders we will follow the same category classification as for the road league. Riders new to our events use their PPA seeding or age groups as a basis for selecting their category. See our guide here.

  • Category 1 – 103 km
  • Category 2 – 103 km
  • Category 3 –  103 km
  • Women – 103 km
  • Open Category – 50 km
  • Para Cyclists – 30 km

All scholars and youth riders are encouraged to take part in the Open Category.

103km Route

The Category Races will be raced over an undulating 103 km course out towards Redelinghuys, riders will negotiate a U Turn in the road and return back on the same road towards Piketberg. Just before the outskirts of the Town, the race will turn right on the Versfeld Pass where a sprint prime will be contested before tacking a climb that won’t be out of place in a ‘Grand Tour’.

A Sprint  and KOM competition will be held for Category 1 only.  The sprint will be determined on the stretch prior to the turn to the pass, and the KOM at the top of the pass.

50km Route

Schools Age Categories (50 kms) will race out to the Eendekuil Road and will make a U Turn to race on the same road back to Piketberg. These races will not tackle the Versfeld Pass.

Paracycling Route

There will also be a paracycling race of 30 kilometers heading out on the same route as the 50km race
