Cycling SA Membership and licenses
This is a national race and sanctioned under Cycling South Africa, therefore the applicable rules by Cycling SA, and by extension the UCI, will apply. Participants must have a Cycling SA full racing license.
Cycling SA Racing License means a license issued to any cyclist who wishes to participate in a Cycling SA sanctioned event, irrespective of any other license which that member may hold. (As per 1.2.11) A Full Racing License allows a cyclist to compete in all sanctioned cycling events including inter-provincial events Provincial Championships and league races.
Thus, all participants must be in a possession of a Cycling SA Full Racing License to participant.
Trouble with your Cycling SA License?
We often get complaints about participants unable to enter due to a message about invalid Cycling SA license during the online registration process. Our system verifies both your Cycling SA membership and Cycling SA domestic racing license to be valid on the day of the event. Licenses expire on 31 December each year, so you should get a new 2023 license for this event. Membership expires 1 year after your last renewal or purchase. This date could be prior to the event date. Carefully review both expiry dates before contacting us.
New membership or licenses, including renewals, can be purchased online on the Cycling SA membership page.

After a very successful debut in 2022, the Velddrif 222 Velddrif returns. This circular route takes you inland from Velddrif to Piketberg before swinging north-west to Elandsbaai then south along the coast back to Velddrif. It’s a challenge! 222km with some serious climbs, giving you 1300m of ascent. You’d better start training soon!
The race will work on a handicap system with the slower riders starting first. Start times will be issued to participants once the entries are closed.
AND to spice things up, we are incorporating a club competition to the race. The combined times of the first 10 of your club members across the line will give you the reputation as the fastest, toughest club in the Cape! So get talking to your club mates and get entering. Ensure you have indicated your club during the registration process!
Line honours will go to the first person across the finish line and of course race honours to the rider with the fastest elapsed time overall! So plenty to race for.
Route and Elevation
The route is a circular one, starting and ending in Velddrif.
Categories and Seeding
WPCA officials will use previous race data to seed the start groups. Participants will be notified of their start group and time by email a few days before the race takes place.
Registration
Registration will take place on Saturday 24 June at the Riviera Hotel in Velddrif from 4pm until 7pm and again the following morning from 6am until 8:30am. Participants from the WP League races are to use their existing race numbers for this event but are still required to sign on at registration. People who have not been in any of our previous races will be issued race numbers at registration.
Race Information:
The start venue for the race is still to be confirmed however the cyclists will have a neutral zone from the start area to just in front of the Riviera Hotel, where the race will start. Participants will be heading towards Piketberg. Racing will start at this point.
There will be 3 feed zones on the route. The first one will be as you leave Piketberg on the left hand side of the road outside Q-Koel – a distance of 65km from the start.
The second feed zone will be at Redelinghuys, 126km into the race. Cyclists will need to turn into Redelinghuys from the race route to access this feed zone. We would encourage family and supporters to join in the fun at this point. City Cycling Club are hosting the feedzone and will have snack packs available for the riders.
The final feed zone will be at SaamStaan, on the way back to Velddrif. This zone is 188km into the race, 35km from the finish, and probably a necessary stop for a lot of people.
The finish line will be just outside Velddrif on the Dwarskersbos road.
